Coming to an end?


Hey everyone!

We thought we should end August with another update! It doesn't seem to be as big as the last one, but we were focused on improving the overall experience of The Barren Kingdoms with lots of smaller changes, like bug fixes and new art assets. This version marks a huge internal milestone for us, and we believe it's on a level for players really to enjoy. Over the next month work will be a bit slower, due to some time off for our team, but in general we have great ideas for pushing The Barren Kingdoms further. 

So no. This update does not mark the end of development of The Barren Kingdoms at all!

Speaking of endings though: 

Overview 

As mentioned above, we have fixed some stuff and added new Art Assets for you to gaze upon. The biggest change is some new Level Design as well as a new Cutscene to give the current prototype an ending. We've rebuilt the City of Yore and its entrance to give the player more of an achievement when they pass the town's gates. In the City they will experience the new cutscene to round off the experience of The Barren Kingdoms. Afterwards they are still free to explore the world and mess around with our systems! Please be aware that this ending is just temporary for this prototype/demo. A real ending will be added once we start shaping the rest of the world.

What’s next?


Like we said before, this update marks a little milestone for us. We will now take a step back, take a deep breath and look at what we have achieved so far. We want to reevaluate a couple of things  about the game, clean up the code and rethink the way we work on this project.  Then, with new focus and full commitment we aim to take the Barren Kingdoms to the next level - quite literally. We have an ancient ruin full of ideas and need to organize them and cherry pick the best ones, to make the Barren Kingdoms a full game that we and you - the players - will love. We are going to keep you updated on this process and we hope to present another exciting update to you soon! 

Please keep the feedback coming, as it helps us a lot with figuring out which direction to take! But - most of all - please enjoy the game!
